How to Complete Each Lesson

Welcome to the GCSE Maths Foundation Course

Before we get started, let's make sure you know exactly how to complete each lesson so that you can get the most from them.

You will need the following equipment:

  • Paper - each lesson comes with a PDF work booklet that contains a variety of questions. I recommend downloading and printing each one off so that you can write directly on them. If printing is an issue, you can use plain or squared paper and view the questions online.
  • Pen or pencil to write with.
  • Calculator - ideally a standard GCSE scientific one.
  • Other general maths equipment (e.g. ruler and protractor) may be useful for some lessons.

Once you've got all your equipment ready, ensure you're in a quiet room where you won't be distracted (no mobile phones!)

Each lesson comes with a video that will walk you through the work booklet. I will go through some examples and you should concentrate on the method being used whilst taking notes. You will be prompted at various points to pause the video and try some questions for yourself - these will be challenging but based on everything you have just learnt. When you play the video again, I will go through the questions and you can see if you got them right.

The following colour coding identifies the level of difficulty for each question:

  • Green - standard
  • Orange - challenging
  • Red - difficult

At the end of the video will be a worksheet for you to complete. Full solutions are available so you can mark them. Exam-style questions are used throughout so you will be getting plenty of practice for the real GCSE exams. The worksheets do not use any colour coding - this is purposefully done to give you the opportunity to identify how challenging each question is.

I recommend going through the lessons in the correct order as some will use skills learnt in previous sections.

If you need support with any questions or concepts, please sign up to the Coaching Programme to get personalised support from Ben.

That should be everything for now. You're about to take the first steps towards passing GCSE maths, I hope you're excited!
